Math & Chaos Theory
We zoom out to the astronomical level, then in to the atomic scale. Special attention is devoted to the young but burgeoning fields of fractals and chaos theory. Although these new fields are mathematically very complex, introductory topics often involve nothing more than arithmetic and drawing paper. Exploring arithmetic, algebra, geometry and even calculus – students learn how even elementary topics can be used as a springboard to decipher the numerical framework of nature and science. There are no prerequisites for this course. In this fascinating journey, students delve into the mathematics behind the beauty of nature. Join a different type of math team this summer! This class is offered weeks 1 & 2 only. |
