Centenary College Manages Canned Food Drive in Honor of Veterans Day

11/15/2013, 02:17 PM

Hackettstown, N.J. – The Centenary College community celebrated Veterans Day by coordinating a two-day canned food drive for local veterans.  This initiative was coordinated through the National Armory in Port Murray, N.J.

The project resulted in approximately 300 donated cans that will benefit two local veteran families.  The remainder of the food will be made available to other veterans who are in contact with the National Armory.

“Centenary College really came through for us,” says Lisa Szymanski, Principal Clerk Typist at the National Armory and Member of the New Jersey Commission of Women Veterans.  “This food will really make a difference in the lives of multiple people in this area and will help make their holiday season one that is special.  It was great to work with the staff members who made this happen and I hope to partner with Centenary College again.”

In addition to the food drive, the Office of Veterans Services at Centenary College created an Honor Tree this week.  Members of the Centenary community were encouraged to decorate it and leave messages to those who serve our country. Over 150 messages were placed on the tree.

Founded in 1867 by the Newark Conference of the United Methodist Church, Centenary College’s academic program integrates a solid liberal arts foundation with a strong career orientation. This mix is designed to provide an educational experience that prepares students to succeed in the increasingly global and interdependent world.

Centenary College’s main campus is located in Hackettstown, N.J., with its equestrian facility in Washington Township (Morris County).  The Centenary College School of Professional Studies offers degree programs in two locations: Parsippany and Edison, and at corporate sites throughout New Jersey.  The School of International Programs recruits international students for study at Centenary and Centenary students for study abroad.
