Superintendent Police Commander from Ghana to Speak at Centenary College

Hackettstown, N.J. - Justice Anthony Aduhene-Benieh, Superintendent of Police and Commander of the Airport Police District, for the Ghana Police Service, will discuss “International Peacekeeping, Terrorism and Policing in Somalia” at 7 p.m. November 18, 2013, in the George H. Whitney Chapel at Centenary College.  This event is sponsored by the Criminal Justice Program and the Political and Governmental Affairs Program.  It is also free and open to the public.

Aduhene-Benieh will discuss the role of African Union Peacekeeping Police Officers and the challenges that are faced when rebuilding a war-torn country.

Aduhene-Benieh was deployed with a contingent of Ghanaian Police to Mogadishu, Somalia, under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) this past June.  The AMISOM mandate is to advise, mentor, monitor and train the local Somali Police.
Forces to an appreciable standard that can stand the test of time.  He served previously in Liberia as part of the United Nations mandate to restructure the local police forces.  In addition to his appearance at Centenary College, he will be visiting the United States to attend a training program at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, DC.
