11/06/2012, 10:22 AM

Hackettstown, N.J. – Centenary College is putting lessons learned from years of working on Hurricane Katrina relief to help our neighbors.  On Saturday, Centenary will host an Open House for prospective students from 9:30 a.m. to noon.  During this event, Centenary, Hot 97 and Hip Hop Has a Heart Foundation will sponsor a canned goods and bottled water drive to support those displaced by Hurricane Sandy.

Donations can be dropped off at the David and Carol Lackland Center (715 Grand Avenue).  Items collected during the Open House will be distributed to area shelters by the Hip Hop Has a Heart Foundation.

Since its inception in 1994, Hip Hop Has a Heart Foundation, which was started by Hot 97 radio station, has committed itself to fulfilling its mission to be responsive to the needs and concerns of the community and create a positive environment.

By organizing various concerts and events, as well as participating with organizations such as the Chancellor’s Literacy Program, the United Negro College Fund, Walk to Cure Diabetes, Safe Horizon, September 11th Fund, and AIDS Walk New York, the Hip Hop Has a Heart Foundation is proud to have raised almost $1 million.

“I am so glad that we can partner with Hip Heart Have a Heart Foundation and collect goods for those who need them in the wake of Hurricane Sandy,” says Melissa DiSanto, Director of Freshman Enrollment at Centenary College.  “We are hoping that this outreach can help just even a little bit during this trying time.”
