Centenary College to Support Midnight Run and Trinity United Methodist Church Pantry with the "Empty Bowl Dinner"

10/25/2012, 11:23 AM

Hackettstown, N.J.– Centenary College will be hosting the fourth annual “Empty Bowl Dinner” for two dinner seatings, at 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., on November 12, 2012, at the Trinity House in Hackettstown.

Members of the community are invited to attend this event at a cost of $15 ($10 for Centenary students) to participate in a project to fight hunger and raise awareness about homelessness.  Attendees also are asked to donate nonperishable food items that evening.

Attendees will choose a bowl, hand-painted by students at the College and various Girl Scout troops, and fill it with soup donated from Stella G’s in Hackettstown.  The painted bowls can be kept as reminders that those who participated helped to fill someone’s empty bowl.

A.R.T., Centenary College, Stella G’s, WRNJ radio, Hollie Studios, the Hackettstown Business Improvement District (BID), Demi’s Biscotti, Harpers Bakery, Mama’s Restaurant and Café Baci are this year’s sponsors of this event.

Proceeds will benefit the Centenary College Chapter of Midnight Run, a volunteer organization dedicated to finding common ground between the housed and the homeless.  Midnight Run volunteers distribute food, clothing, blankets and personal care items to the homeless in New York City.  Visit http://www.midnightrun.org to learn more about the cause.  Centenary students travel to New York City every month to bring goods to those who need them.

Nonperishable goods will be donated to the Trinity Church Food Pantry.

“It is wonderful to be continuing this event for the fourth year in a row,” says Nicole Chaladoff , co-coordinator of the Empty Bowl Dinner and a Centenary Social Work major.  “This initiative has really grown momentum throughout the years and I am pleased to help with this mission.”
