Centenary Student Embarks on Internship Experience at News 12 New Jersey

Hackettstown, N.J.– Allison Hodson, a Centenary College senior and Communication major, is spending her summer focusing on finishing her studies, though not in the traditional way.  She is earning four credits by learning about the world of television broadcasting, production and reporting at News 12 New Jersey in Edison.

Three days a week, this Mansfield Township (Warren County) resident, formerly from Texas, commutes an hour to the New Jersey news station.  She has served as a special projects intern and has aided with the production of the “On the Road” series that highlights different municipalities every week, plus she works at the assignment desk taking story pitch calls.  In addition, she has had the opportunity to shadow reporters and interview people for a story related to the spike in organ donors in the Newark area, as well as news coverage of a murder.
Hodson, who will be graduating in January, felt that this opportunity was “a great real world experience and a lot of fun.”  She hopes to continue working in a career related to the field of television or radio once she graduates.

Centenary College offers qualified students who meet the academic requirements the opportunity to participate in an internship. Internships afford students the opportunity to gain real life experience in their chosen field, which can open doors to full-time employment options.

Founded in 1867 by the Newark Conference of the United Methodist Church, Centenary College’s academic program integrates a solid liberal arts foundation with a strong career orientation. This mix is designed to provide an educational experience that prepares students to succeed in the increasingly global and interdependent world.

Centenary College’s main campus is located in Hackettstown, N.J., with its equestrian facility in Washington Township (Morris County).  The Centenary College School of Professional Studies offers degree programs in three locations: Hackettstown, Parsippany and Edison, and at corporate sites throughout New Jersey.  The School of International Programs recruits international students for study at Centenary and Centenary students for study abroad.
