Hackettstown, N.J. - Centenary College President Dr. Barbara-Jayne Lewthwaite has been selected by the Boy Scouts of America to receive the “Good Scout” Award.  She will be honored alongside Dr. William Austin of Warren Community College on July 25, 2012, at Hawk Pointe Golf and Country Club in Washington, N.J.

Recipients of the “Good Scout” Award are selected for their outstanding community service, as evidenced by their leadership of many worthwhile organizations, as well as the respect and esteem in which they are held by their colleagues.

The Warren “Good Scout” Award will be presented by the Central New Jersey Council, Boy Scouts of America, serving 10,000 scouts and their families in Hunterdon, Middlesex, Mercer, Somerset and Warren counties.
Dr. Lewthwaite was named the 12th President of Centenary College in 2009, becoming only the second woman and second former faculty member to hold the position since Centenary’s founding in 1867.  Part of the Centenary College community for more than 25 years, she brings to the post sound academic credentials, strong educational leadership skills and valuable business acumen.

She served in several leadership positions on the Dover Board of Education for 15 years, including two terms as President, and currently serves on the Boards of the United Way of Northern New Jersey-Warren County, Hackettstown Regional Medical Center and the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Crisis Center.

Dr. Lewthwaite is widely published with regard to student learning, and has recently been honored by Garden State Women’s Magazine as Woman of the Year in 2011, and has been inducted into the Warren County Hall of Fame.

She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and Psychology degree from Pace University and Master of Business Administration in Executive Management and Doctor of Education degrees from St. John’s University.

“It is such an honor to be recognized in this manner,” says Dr. Lewthwaite.  “I am grateful for this opportunity and hope to continue to foster the positive development of future generations.”
