Hackettstown, N.J. - The Centenary College administration is pleased to announce an addition to the College’s portfolio of degree offerings – a Bachelor of Science degree in Equine Science (Pre-veterinary Track), which will start in the fall of 2015.

This new program is hosted by the collaborative efforts of the Equine Studies and Mathematics and Natural Sciences Departments at Centenary College.  It is designed for the academically motivated student who is capable of maintaining a 20 credit semester course load over a four-year period.  This is for the student who wants to pursue a career in veterinary medicine or the animal science related fields such as nutrition, physiology, technology, biomedical research and pharmaceuticals.

Students will be provided with expert advisors to assist in their career development.  Additionally, internships or experiential learning is highly encouraged within this major.  Students enrolled in this curriculum will be encouraged to participate in the Pre-Professionals Organization which provides extracurricular education into the science-based careers and graduate schools through meetings, guest speakers and tutorials focused on graduate school applications.  This organization will emphasize the skills associated with professional networking, time management, pro-activeness and the stresses that can be experienced in a competitive academic forum.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for those who are interested in the field of veterinary medicine, as well as the science-associated careers within the industry,” says Dr. Michael Fugaro, Professor of Equine Studies and Veterinarian at Centenary College.  “We pride ourselves at Centenary on small classrooms with a more individualized focus for attendees.  This program provides an invaluable experience for those self-motivated individuals who value the veterinary sciences.  Our emphasis on experiential learning, stellar resources and student accessibility to expert faculty are all conducive to our graduates’ success and the competitive edge for veterinary school.”
