Gates-Ferry Lecturer at Centenary College, Mark Burgess, is Included on Forbes.com List of "Must-Follow Marketing Minds on Twitter 2014"

Hackettstown, N.J. – Branding guru Mark Burgess, who was recently included on Forbes.com’s list of “Must-Follow Marketing Minds on Twitter 2014,” will serve as Centenary College’s 2014 Gates-Ferry Distinguished Visiting Lecturer. He will discuss “Branding from the Inside Out: Are You Ready?” from 7 to 9 p.m. February 4, 2014 at the Sitnik Theatre at the David and Carol Lackland Center.  This event is free and open to the public.

“Branding from the Inside Out: Are You Ready?” focuses on how leading brands like IBM, AT&T, Cisco, Dell and Adobe are driving business transformation by creating a new culture of social employees.  Innovative businesses are seeking a win/win for their brand while empowering employees to build personal brands.

Mark Burgess is President of Blue Focus Marketing, a strategic social branding firm that helps brands realize the benefits of social employee engagement, social media marketing, content marketing and integrated marketing communication.  He was also recently quoted in U.S. News and World Report.

He is also the co-author of The Social Employee (McGraw-Hill, Summer 2013), an Amazon best-seller that has been endorsed by Tom Peters as his number 1 book on social business.  Mark’s business partner and wife, Cheryl Burgess, is the co-author.  Burgess’ career spans B2B and B2C marketing, advertising and professional services consulting.  Burgess led the PwC Global Web team, at McCann, and headed the L’Oreal and Sears accounts.  He also has held senior digital and interactive marketing positions at AT&T.

Burgess is a recipient of the Joel A. Kobert Distinguished Teaching Award from Centenary College in 2009, which is presented annually to outstanding adjunct faculty members in recognition of their excellence in teaching.  Burgess is also on the expert faculty for executive education at the Rutgers University Center for Management Development.  He is an expert blogger for AT&T on digital and social media marketing.  Burgess’ Blue Focus Marketing blog won the 2012 MarketingSherpa Reader’s Choice Award as “Best Social Media Marketing” blog.  Burgess delivers workshops on Content Marketing strategy for the American Marketing Association.  SMM magazine’s list of Top Marketing Professors on Twitter ranks Burgess in the top 1 percent in the world.  Follow Burgess on Twitter: @mnburgess.

The Gates-Ferry Distinguished Visiting Lectureship at Centenary College recognizes the dedication to the College of Joseph R. Ferry, Trustee from 1948 to 1976 and treasurer of the Board of Trustees for 20 years.  It was established to set high standards and goals for students and faculty alike, and to enrich the quality of life on the Centenary campus.
