Biography

Robert A. Verry started his career with the Middlesex County College Police Department in 1988, joining South Bound Brook Police Department in 1989. He served as P.B.A. President before being promoted to Sergeant in 1995; Lieutenant in 1996; Chief in 2000; and retiring in March 2008. Presently, Robert is a full-time Assistant Professor of American Political &Governmental Affairs with Centenary College. His courses are related to Leadership and Public Administration in the Masters program; Political & Governmental Affairs and Criminal Justice in the Bachelors program.

Since 2007, Robert provided law enforcement consulting services throughout New Jersey and while in that capacity served as a Hearing Officer for sworn and unsworn personnel, reviewed police department’s internal affairs policy and procedures, reviewed defense expert’s reports, and served as an investigator. He qualified and testified as an expert in Superior Court; specifically for: Internal Affairs and Supervisory Investigations, Policies, and Procedures. Robert earned an Associate’s in Liberal Arts, Bachelor’s in Sociology / Criminal Justice, and a Master’s in Leadership and Public Administration. Besides the MA, Robert also holds an MBA degree all from Centenary College. Additionally, he is a graduate Paralegal from Fairleigh Dickenson University as well as a Certified Public Manager and graduate of West Point Command & Leadership, Public Sector Labor Relations Certificate Program, and Police Law Enforcement Executive. Furthermore, he is a certified instructor in Crash Investigation I, Crash Investigation II, Vehicle Dynamics, a Master Instructor in RADAR, and Occupant Protection Usage & Enforcement and a Crash Reconstructionist.  He possesses certifications in Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Traffic Engineering [from Rutgers], and Methods of Instruction.

Robert is the founding member of New Jersey’s Internal Affairs Association and continues to serve as President since 2004’s commencement. He has been directly and indirectly involved in well over 1,000 police misconduct investigations and has presented over 100 seminars across New Jersey related to Internal Affairs investigations including, but not limited to, a basic course that reviews the Attorney General Internal Affairs Policy and Procedure; Employee Discipline; Understanding Past Practice, and Controlling Absenteeism.

Research

Currently researching material and actively writing second book on police misconduct. Additionally, Robert is currently conducting research on a third book related to small town public corruption.
