A Commitment to Transfer Students

Centenary College offers our transfer students a high level of personal service compared to other colleges that are primarily focused on freshmen enrollments. One-third of our students come to Centenary as graduates of community colleges or transfers from other institutions.

Our college has articulation agreements with all community colleges in New Jersey. This makes the transfer of your college credits to Centenary a quick and simple process.

We promise a personal commitment to our transfer students. Your Centenary Transfer counselor not only helps with the admissions process, but also serves as your interim Academic Advisor. You are personally guided from pre-application to the selection and start of your classes.

A minimum of 128 credits are required to earn a Bachelor degree from Centenary College. 72 credits may be transferred from a community college. 96 credits may be transferred from another Bachelor degree granting institution. You must complete 32 credits at Centenary College to meet our residency requirement.

Centenary College offers rolling admissions for both Fall and Spring Semesters. Completing the admissions process at least one semester in advance of coming to Centenary will maximize the financial assistance available to you. It will also give you priority in registering for classes.

The Transfer Process

Transfer Counselors are available to meet with you at any point in your academic career. Starting early is one way to make sure you have the right credits for your major.

We begin by making an unofficial credit equivilency audit during your campus visit. This audit will match your current transfer credits to the Centenary College curriculum.

After your meeting, you will have a clear understanding of your remaining academic requirements based upon your academic interest. You can then use our credit equivilency audit as a guide for completing courses at your transferring institution.

To be considered for admission as a Transfer Student, you must provide:

  • A completed Admissions application.
  • A $30 non-refundable application fee or fee waiver. (No fee when applying online.)
  • Proof of High School graduation or the equivalent.
  • If you have taken two semesters of English and Math at the college level, SAT/ACT scores are not required. (Centenary College's test code is 2080).
  • Official transcripts from ALL colleges attended, mailed from the college or university directly to our Admissions Office.
  • A Personal Essay.

Letters of recommendation are not required, but will strengthen your application and enable the Admissions Committee to make a better determination of the College's ability to meet your academic needs.

Once your file is complete, the Admissions Committee will review it and make a decision regarding admission.

Accepted students are required to pay the requested deposit. This guarantees your placement and allows you to register for all classes.

At the point when your course work is completed at the transferring institution and a final transcript is received by Centenary College, our Audit Evaluator will conduct an official evaluation of your credits. These will be posted to your Centenary College transcript.

Life Learning Experience Program

Students transferring to Centenary can receive credit through Life Learning Experience Program after completion of a minimum of 6 credits at Centenary.

Life experience credit can be awarded for work that you may have been doing for years. The validation of life experience is done by our faculty. They assess your portfolio and equate that experience to college courses. Students applying for Life Learning Experience must be 25 years of age or older.
