Centenary's Mathematics and Natural Sciencews Department provides undergraduates an ideal foundation which is complemented by a wide variety of courses to match personal interests and professional aspirations.
We offer degree programs in Mathematics and Biology, both of which combine a rich liberal arts education with a challenging curriculum emphasizing inquiry, analysis, and discovery.
Teaching is our primary emphasis. Students who choose to major in Mathematics or Biology benefit from a intimate learning environment that allows for significant personal contact with professors and numerous opportunities for:
- Specialized programs
- Research
- Internships
- Access to specialized training in areas environmental science, statistics, business, education, and medical sciences.
With a broad liberal arts education, coupled with experiential learning and practical training in mathematics and natural sciences, graduates of the department are well prepared for careers in business, health care, research, and education.

Prepare to be Challenged
Centenary's Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department offers a B.A. in Mathematics and a B.S. in Biology. Students enrolled in the Biology program may also take concentrations in Equine Science or Psychology.
Courses are offered on a four-credit system, allowing for:
- Longer class periods.
- More in-depth learning experiences.
- Greater opportunities to elect a double major or minor.

Teacher Certification
Teachers of Science and Mathematics are in high demand in our country today. Centenary College offers the means to combine your major interest with our Teacher Certification program.
Did you know that many students in the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department combine their Mathematics or Biology degree with Teacher Certification in Elementary for Secondary Education?
All certifications programs are approved by the New Jersey Department of Education and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council. Students interested in pursuing Teacher Certification must have a 2.75 GPA or higher and apply to the Education Department after their sophomore year.

Concentrations and Minors
As a Major in Biology and Mathematics, you may also explore concentrations in Equine Studies, Psychology, and Graduate Studies preparation.
Equine Science Concentration
Equine Science is a concentration for students interested in working at a veterinary clinic, interested in breeding management, or graduate research. Courses include equine first aid, equine systems and disorders, breeding and reproduction, and the equine musculoskeletal system.
Psychology Concentration
Psychology is a concentration designed to meet the growing demands of the workplace with coursework focusing on personal and interpersonal awareness, human development, research methods and psychological tests.
Minor in Biology
The Minor in Biology is designed for students interested in expanding their studies in the areas of the biological sciences. Students must complete courses in Biology of Plants and Cells, Biology of Animals, Basic Chemistry, Statistics I, and two Biology electives at the 2000 level or higher.
