The Communication and Fine Arts Department offers its students two degree tracts:
- Bachelor of Arts
- Bachelor of Fine Arts
Centenary College is one of the few colleges the Northeast to offer B.A. degrees in Communication and Theatre Arts, and B.F.A. degrees in Art & Design, and Graphic Design & Multimedia Arts.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art and Design
The Art & Design major fuses a variety of studio art and graphic design courses within a liberal arts core. Students are motivated to express their creativity through concentration in the fine arts, where they will be prepared for careers in painting, drawing, printmaking and in commercial or applied arts, illustration, advertising, graphic design, and photography.
As a condition of graduation, all Fine Arts students are required to prepare a professional career portfolio and mount a one-person show. The year-long Visual Arts Project is a unique course that prepares the students to mount their own show and manage an art gallery.
Students also have the opportunity to study off-campus. Regular field trips to New York/New Jersey museums, trade show rooms, galleries and auction houses. Students may also spend a semester in England at the American College in London.

Bachelor of Arts in Communication
The Communication major offers students a strong foundation in print and broadcast media. The challenging curriculum provides students with training in the journalistic tradition as well as hands-on experience through:
- The College-owned radio station WNTI. Visit www.wnti.org.
- HSTV Channel 23 (Centenary College Television).
- Production of the college-sponsored newspaper The Quill.
- The college yearbook The Hack.
Students study media history and regulation and examine media’s impact on society. The program also explores nonfiction free-lance writing opportunities, advanced theories and methods in mass media, journalistic ethics, media law, and advertising. The communication program prepares students for graduate programs in journalism and related studies, and a multitude of careers in print and broadcast media, public relations, and corporate communications.
Students majoring in other disciplines may elect to take a 15-credit Communication minor.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design
Fashion design students examine and research trends, evaluate consumer markets and buying behavior, and use technology to conceptualize, design, and construct apparel products.
Specific skills taught include: apparel construction, sketching/illustration, pattern making, draping and portfolio development.
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Merchandising and Design
The program emphasizes buying, fashion show coordination, visual merchandising, and textiles. Students have the opportunity to plan and promote fashion products, design and use visual communication, and evaluate products.
The Merchandising and Design major studies the planning and control of products in the fashion industry in order to meet consumer demand. Graduates are prepared to begin their careers in the fashion industry as buyers, fashion coordinators, product managers, retail managers, merchandisers, and product developers.

Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design and Multimedia Arts
This comprehensive program is geared for students interested in creating digital art for contemporary media.
Rooted in a traditional fine art cirriculum, our students learn to create and manipulate digital art for print, the Web, video, and film. The program serves students interested in digital design and multi-media arts and prepares them for careers in the ever-expanding media industry.
The major in Graphic Design and Multi-Media Arts offers courses in drawing, painting, printmaking, art history, and photography. Students also receive training on digital art, in the various media required for print, the Internet, videos, and films.
Upon completion of their major, students are ready to market their skills within the careers of advertising, publishing, communications, film production and more.

Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts
Centenary's major in Theater Arts offers students the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree along with professional training in theater arts, design and theater management. Students graduate uniquely prepared for careers in the theater industry. Acting studies are combined with a broad based liberal arts curriculum.
The Theatre Arts major offers students the opportunity to develop their skills in a professional environment. Centenary is the home of Centenary Stage Company, a professional equity theater currently in its 16th year. It is managed under Carl Wallnau, artistic director for the past 20 years, and current Department Chairman for the Communication and Fine Arts department.
Students also have the option to join the Equity Membership Candidate Program, earning points toward an Equity card. This card is awarded based on accumulated experiences from accredited productions both on the campus and at other professional equity theaters. Centenary Stage Company is a member of the New Jersey Theater Alliance.
The Centenary Stage Company produces performances throughout the year offering students a wide array of experiences at the campus. There are a minimum of two student productions each season.
