Students can request academic coaching including goal setting and time management training through the Academic Success Center.  Our Disability Services and Educational Opportunity Fund programs also provide support services to our Centenary students and are located within the Academic Success Center.

The Academic Success Center conducts a number of workshops aimed at student success covering topics such as time management and note taking.  These workshops provide effective strategies for students looking to improve their organizational skills both inside and out of the classroom.  During the Fall 2008 semester, students can attend the following workshops:

Weekly Success tips are also distributed to all students via email and archived in Blackboard.  These tips provide students with information concerning test anxiety, group projects, etc.  All of the services provided by the Academic Success Center are free.

The Academic Success Center looks to assist all students in achieving their fullest academic potential through the personalized attention each student receives.  Every student is recognized as an individual.

All CAPS students interested in receiving tutoring should contact Suzie Casadevall at casadevalls@centenarycollege.edu at extension 5013.  Graduate students interested in receiving tutoring should contact their academic advisor.

HUB: "Home of the Tutoring and Writing Center"

Coordinators: Christoph Nowaczyk and Paula Tremain
Dept Phone: +1 (908) 852-1400 x.2246
Hours of Operation: Monday-Thursday 10am-10pm, Friday 10am-7pm EST

The HUB, located in the back of the Seay Building, is a place where students may come, either voluntarily or by referral, to meet individually with trained peer tutors.  Students have the option of attending a few sessions for specific questions or meeting regularly with tutors.  The HUB is available for students at all levels of writing proficiency and the tutoring sessions are single focused.

Students are encouraged to be active participants in their tutoring sessions and experiment with a variety of ideas through brainstorming.  The sessions are interactive and topics such as writing strategies and grammatical/content concerns are discussed.  The HUB treats writing as a process involving practice, risktaking, and revising.

Online Writing Lab (OWL)

Online tutoring is also available for students whose schedule prohibits a face to face meeting with a HUB peer tutor.  This service allows students to submit writing for peer review.  It is used extensively by Centenary's students to assist in successful writing.

There are two ways to take advantage of this 24/7 service:

1. Log on when the writing center is open and converse with a tutor, similar to instant messaging.
2. Get online tutoring support with a 48-hour response commitment.  Submit your paper for review at any time.  A facilitator will review it and get it back with edits and recommendations within 48 hours.
