HistoryCentenary College is a true college in the sense that Liberal Arts learning is an integral part of its academic philosophy. Centenary's programs are designed to provide students with an ideal blend of career preparation options and a solid liberal arts foundation. Centenary is an independent college offering bachelor degree programs, associate degree programs and a business certificate program in the liberal arts and career areas and master degree programs in Business Administration, Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Education, English, Leadership and Public Administration and Special Education. Centenary College was founded in 1867 as Centenary Collegiate Institute, a coeducational preparatory school. It became in 1910 a preparatory school for girls. Later, junior college courses were offered, and in 1940, Centenary Junior College was formed. Centenary College, as a four-year institution for women, granting bachelor's and associate's degree, was established in 1976. In the same year Centenary's coeducational Continuing Studies Department was founded. In 1988 Centenary College began enrolling men as full-time students in all programs. In the fall of 1995, Centenary College introduced its first master degree program - MA in Education: Instructional Leadership, Centenary college added a MS in Professional Accounting in 1998, a MA in Special Education, a MA in Counseling, a MA in Psychology in 1999, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2000, and a MA in English in Fall of 2002.
