Community Service

Community Service at Centenary College

Centenary is one of the first colleges to require that all of its students participate in community service initiatives throughout their college careers. Community service is an integral part of Centenary College

Centenary is committed to building leaders. Community service is one of the ways we believe we can best develop future citizens.

Centenary expects each student to graduate having demonstrated that they are:

  • Civil because they are responsible, respectful contributors to their communities.
  • Empowered because they skillfully and proactively manage new situations, exercising both independence and leadership.
  • Ethical because they have the ability to consider alternative ethical perspectives and act on their judgment of them, upholding ethical behavior in their personal and professional lives.
  • Caring and empathetic because they are kind, considerate, and understanding in their interactions.
  • Creative because they are able to take personal and intellectual risks to stretch their capabilities.
  • Reflective because when they are open to new perspectives, students learn to synthesize their experiences and find new understandings of themselves and their roles in the wider world.

Requirements

Centenary College requires all students to perform at least 10 hours of community service. All students are required to participate in Community Plunge when they begin their career at Centenary College. This is graduation requirement.

Leadership Scholarships

Scholarships are available for students. Students meeting leadership scholarship requirements are required to perform 30 hours of community service each school year. For more information contact the Community Service Office or Financial Aid.
