Volunteers Needed! Back Barn Restoration Project!

Volunteer help needed! We are starting a big project in July – the restoration of the Back Barn...

Volunteer help needed!

We are starting a big project in July – the restoration of the Back Barn at the Equestrian Center – and we are looking for volunteers to help with the rebuild.

Here are the details:

• Who: We need YOU! Bring a few friends, family members, your dog-walker, your sports teams, your dentist…you get the idea! As long as volunteers are over the age of 18, they can help with the project. We need 10 -12 volunteers per day; and will provide a lunch and beverages for volunteers.

• When: Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, starting on Wednesday, July 6 and running through Saturday August 27 (barring any unforeseen issues). Start time is 8:30 am, we break at noon for lunch, and we end the day at 4:30 pm.

• Why: The Equestrian Center impacts 140 full-time students, 40 TRAC clients with disabilities, 20 Centenary student instructors-in-training, and 30 community volunteers. Without the Back Barn - the Center’s “command post” - academic and community programs will be jeopardized. With the help of volunteers, a renovated barn will be complete in time for the Fall 2011 semester.

• What else: A foreman from Morris Habitat for Humanity will lead volunteers each day. We will document the progress of the project through photographs that will be displayed on the Project’s Facebook page (Centenary College Back Barn Restoration Project). When the project is complete, all volunteers will be invited back for a ribbon cutting/thank you ceremony.

We need volunteers to sign up today – your help will make this project a success.

For more information or answer to Back Barn questions, please call or email me.

You can also follow updates and sign up on the Facebook page! www.facebook.com/ccbackbarn

THANK YOU!

Students Hit the Streets to Perform Community Service

Centenary College students hit the streets to perform community service
Continuing a long-standing...

Centenary College students hit the streets to perform community service
Continuing a long-standing Centenary College tradition and graduation requirement, 470 of the college's incoming freshmen and transfer students hit the streets last Monday to give their time to the Community Plunge.

Started a dozen years ago, Community Plunge is an annual community service event for new students that sends them out to help a variety of organizations and causes.

This year, Centenary students were sent out to serve at a dozen different sites in the area, including The Post House in Chester, Morris County Soil Conservation in Morristown, cleanup of the Hackettstown downtown center, and even as far as the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia.

Since 1990, community service has been a required part of the college's curriculum.

"Few can deny the huge value of community awareness to college students and the tremendous benefit their service provides the surrounding areas,'' the Rev. David Jones, vice president for student engagement at Centenary, said in a statement. "It fosters solid relationships and camaraderie between unacquainted students, develops a strong sense of community and global concern among them, and indulges a variety of interests in the participants by offering an array of possible activities. My hope is that this experience will promote a desire to volunteer and serve throughout their lives.''
