Hackettstown, N.J. – Hye-Jin Lee, Centenary College’s Administrative Manager of International Student Affairs in the School of International Programs, has been selected to attend the National Association for Foreign Student Advisors (NAFSA) Academy for International Education. This is an 11-month training program that prepares participants for leadership roles in the field of international education. It begins on January 26, 2012.

The Academy is comprised of three major training events, and assorted written research projects, all under the guidance and tutelage of an experienced mentor/coach. Each year the Academy accepts a limited number of applicants; therefore, the selection process is rigorous and highly competitive.

Lee is originally from Seoul, Korea. She graduated from Centenary College in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, and from Ewha Womans University, Seoul, in 2009 with a Master’s Degree in International Studies. She began working in her present position in November 2009.

“NAFSA’s Academy is the premier training program for individuals working in the international area,” says Dr. Joseph P. Linskey, Dean of the School of International Programs at Centenary College. “Ms. Lee is a truly deserving candidate and Centenary is very pleased that she has been accepted for participation in this year’s training academy.”

With nearly 10,000 members worldwide, NAFSA is the world’s largest nonprofit professional association dedicated to international education. NAFSA’s focus is on establishing mutual understanding among nations, preparing the next generation with vital cross-cultural and global skills, and creating the conditions for a more peaceful world.

Founded in 1867 by the Newark Conference of the United Methodist Church, Centenary College’s academic program integrates a solid liberal arts foundation with a strong career orientation. This mix is designed to provide an educational experience that prepares students to succeed in the increasingly global and interdependent world.

Centenary College’s main campus is located in Hackettstown, N.J., with its equestrian facility in Washington Township (Morris County).
Hackettstown, N.J., October 13, 2011 – For the third year, the Office of International Programs...

Hackettstown, N.J., October 13, 2011 – For the third year, the Office of International Programs will sponsor a Global Lecture Series. The fall event is free and open to the public.

Marilee Pierce Dunker, World Vision Advocate, will conduct a presentation about globalization focusing on the critical areas of our world right now. The presentation will be held at 10 a.m. October 25, 2011 in the George H. Whitney Chapel.

The daughter of World Vision founder Bob Pierce, Dunker is a dedicated advocate for women and children around the world. She describes her motivation as “the simple heart of a mom combined with a passion to see suffering eased.”

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.

World Vision serves close to 100 million people in nearly 100 countries around the world. The organization also serves all people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender.

With experience as an author, speaker and radio personality, Dunker rediscovered World Vision in 2001 --- and uncovered a passion for the ministry her father had begun five decades earlier.

“I am so pleased that Marilee Pierce Dunker will be sharing her expertise with the Centenary community and beyond,” says Dr. Joseph P. Linskey, Dean of International Programs at Centenary College. “Her insight should be inspirational and fits in well with the goal of the Global Lecture Series that was established at Centenary three years ago.”

This series was developed as a result of the fact that social, political and economic systems of different nations have become more interdependent and exchanges have become central to global solutions. Centenary College students are required to be prepared for cross-cultural communication by being interconnected through international opportunities.

For more information, please call Hye-Jin Lee, Administrative Manager of International Student Affairs at Centenary College, at (908) 852-1400, ext. 2267, or e-mail leeh01@centenarycollege.edu.

Centenary College’s Adult and Professional Programs offer accelerated degree completion programs in Parsippany, with an additional facility in Edison, and at corporate sites throughout New Jersey.

The International Student Organization (ISO) was founded in 1997 for global, muti-cultural...

The International Student Organization (ISO) was founded in 1997 for global, muti-cultural exchanges within the Centenary community, including about a hundred students from all around the world. As the social, political and economic systems of different nations have become more interdependent and exchanges have become central to global solutions, students are required to be prepared for cross-cultural communication. Under the universal idea to contribute to the worldwide foundation of wisdom and knowledge, the ISO took flight to overcome cultural, racial and academic gaps, and to promote unity based on deep understanding. The mission of the International Student Organization (ISO) is to foster understanding about diversity and the various cultures among the Centenary College community at large, to provide an avenue to bridge the social gap among the students here at Centenary, and to provide a helping hand to the new incoming students in getting oriented to the USA.

For this 2010-2011 academic year, international students gathered and elected their representatives on September 22, 2010. The Office of International Programs (OIP) would like to proudly introduce the new ISO representatives to the entire Centenary community. We, the Office of International Programs, truly believe that the ISO representatives this year will make a difference and bring a wind of diversity to our campus. We also believe that the faculty’s/staff’s support help them function to the greatest extent and strive to play a part as the ultimate communication channel between international students and Americans.
