The Writing Collaboratory

Located in SEAY 019 (former Tilly's), the Writing Collaboratory offers free 30-minute peer-to-peer consultations on ANY type of written communication in EVERY field of study at the College. Consultants work with students at any stage of the writing process from brainstorming to final drafts.
All selected consultants are highly trained as a result of taking an intensive 16-week course where they become familiar with the theoretical aspects of Writing Center pedagogy and writing instruction. The Collaboratory provides a welcoming environment where students can interact with their fellow peers about strategies on becoming stronger and more effective writers. Our philosophy is based on the idea that creating better writers is a collaborative effort. We encourage students to come prepared to have insightful discussions with consultants about ways they can improve as writers, not just for a given assignment. In addition to collaborative writing instruction, the lab has a reference library where students can take advantage of writing handbooks or documentation guides, such as MLA and APA. The lab also has several computers that students may use to check email or work on assignments. There is a lounge area where students can take advantage of a quiet environment conducive for reading or taking well-deserved breaks in between classes. The lab has a coffee machine, refrigerator, and animal crackers as a snack for writers on the go. There is also a space for in-lab workshops, which will be available for students, faculty and staff throughout the College. All workshops will be run by our trained student consultants. We encourage students to take advantage of this resource throughout their entire time on campus because we believe that creating better writers requires an ongoing commitment. Students can call to make an appointment or come by to speak with our friendly front-desk staff, who are also students at the College. Students can also have drop-in appointments. Our hours will be Monday thru Thursday from 10 am-7 pm. For more information or to schedule a free 30-minute consultation send an email to collaboratory@centenarycollege.edu or call 908-852-1400 ext. 2400.

Hackettstown, N.J., February 7, 2011 – Centenary College is relocating its Metro Park Learning...

Hackettstown, N.J., February 7, 2011 – Centenary College is relocating its Metro Park Learning Center from 101 Wood Avenue South, 6th Floor, Iselin, N.J., to 333 Thornall Street, Edison, N.J. as of February 14, 2011.

Get directions and more details here »

Centenary College has offered accelerated A.A., B.S. and M.B.A. degrees through its Centenary Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS) program in the Metro Park area since 2005 to better serve professionals in Central New Jersey. In addition, the Metro Park site has recently started offering students the option to pursue an accelerated master’s degree in Leadership and Public Administration, as well as an accelerated bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice.

Launched in 1999, CAPS provides a unique format for working adults that enables them to complete their college degrees in less time than traditional programs. Intensive in nature, CAPS classes meet one day a week with study group participation on a weekly basis. The curriculum combines theory and practical experience and classes are in session year-round. To date, over 2000 individuals are CAPS graduates.

The new location affords the College more classroom space, plus offers the institution a more recognizable location with a Centenary street monument sign with the College logo located by the Center.

In addition to the Metro Park Learning Center, CAPS is offered on Centenary’s Hackettstown campus, the Parsippany Learning Center and various corporate sites throughout New Jersey.

“This is yet another important opportunity to better serve our current and future students,” says Diane Finnan, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Strategic Branding. “Since we opened the Metro Park site six years ago, we have been able to effectively serve the educational needs of professionals in that area. This new location will enable us to continue to be an attractive educational option for those interested in excelling in their careers.”

Founded in 1867 by the Newark Conference of the United Methodist Church, Centenary College is an independent, coeducational liberal arts and career studies college distinguished by an accomplished faculty, small class size and diverse student body. Centenary is the only baccalaureate and master’s degree granting institution in northwest New Jersey.

Centenary College’s main campus is located in Hackettstown, N.J., with its equestrian facility in Washington Township (Morris County). The College’s Center for Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS) offers accelerated degree completion programs in Parsippany, with an additional facility in Iselin, and at corporate sites throughout New Jersey.
