New Jersey’s best talent for cyber security careers by inviting you to participate in the Inaugural New Jersey Governor’s Cyber Corps Challenge. Governor Chris Christie’s Cyber Corps Challenge will bring together college and high school student from across the State who will compete to win top honors and earn scholarships to leading colleges and universities. Description: The Sociology and Criminal Justice Club (SCJC) is sponsoring a trip to the "Pennhurst Asylum Haunted House" in Spring City (Chester County),PA. The facility, which has been abandoned for 26 years, has been renovated into a "world class haunted attraction," according to the Pennhurst website.
The Pennhurst website provides detailed information on the tour. The busses leave from Founders' Lot at 3:30 PM.

The Sociology & Criminal Justice Club will be meeting on Tuesday, October 5th in Ferry 12 at 9:45 PM. Agenda:

The October 10 SWAT training exercise with Somerset County Prosecutor's Office will be a main discussion topic. Students who want to volunteer for the event must fill out a waiver form, which is available at the meeting. Students attending this event are volunteering to assist a government agency and this can count as community service.

Assistant Professor of Philosophy to Conduct a Presentation on Religious Pluralism at the House of the Good Shepherd

Hackettstown, N.J., June 30, 2010 – Dr. Christopher Adamo, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, will be conducting a presentation on the subject of religious pluralism at the House of Good Shepherd, a continuing care retirement community in Hackettstown at 2 p.m. on July 26, 2010. This is the second summer Dr. Adamo has spoken to the residents on the subject of religion. Last year, his focus was on the history of Christianity and how it evolved throughout the years, and how Christianity compares with other world religions.

The religious pluralism talk will focus on the many different world religions that affirm significantly different beliefs and practices. It will also outline various positions theologians, philosophers and others that have taken towards reconciling the diversity of religious beliefs. Those that favor both a theistic and pluralistic standpoint will be given extra emphasis

Dr. Adamo received his doctorate in Philosophy from the New School for Social Research in 2004. He is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Centenary College currently serving as Chair of the English and Foreign Languages Department. Dr. Adamo routinely teaches a wide range of humanities courses, including World Religions. His essay on religious pluralism in Lessing’s Nathan the Wise was recently published in Philosophy and Literature (Johns Hopkins). Dr. Adamo’s essay on the work of Jack Kerouac and utopian literature will also be published in the collection The Beats and Philosophy (University of Kentucky Press, forthcoming, Spring 2011).

“I look forward to seeing the residents of the House of the Good Shepherd again and talking to them about this fascinating topic,” says Dr. Adamo. “Religion is a topic of particular interest for the residents, so I am pleased to share my expertise with them.”

ABOUT THE HOUSE OF GOOD SHEPHERD

Five Episcopal Congregations in the Oranges founded the House of the Good Shepherd in 1882. A 20-room rental home launched their humble beginnings. By 1890, a new home was built on Henry Street and housed 36 women until the 1960’s. In 1966, they purchased a wooded, 15-acre site which afforded room for growth. Located in Hackettstown, bordered by the Musconetcong River and Stephens State Park, the retirement community inspires a natural serenity.
