(Photo credit: Erika Lanpher) lThe Centenary riding teams have been on a roll this semester, earning championship after championship at various shows. The IHSA team won 6 out of their 7 shows, which puts them in the lead for the High Point College championship (announced at the Zone 3, Region 3 IHSA Regionals in the spring) by over 70 points. Junior Cori Reich is leading in the Cacchione Cup standings and sophomore Kelsey Bernini is in second. The team made history when they hosted a double IHSA show, held at the Equine Center, for Stevens Institute of Techonolgy and William Patterson University on the same day and won both events.  This past weekend, the team hosted the prestigious 20th anniversary of the Tournament of Champions. Two Centenary teams of 8 riders were entered and Team White emerged victorious, sweeping the Championship. Team Blue was 7th overall. Sophomore Kathryn Haley, the winner of the 2010 USHJA EAP Finals, won the coveted Tournament of Champions Medal. Reich was the reserve champion and Bernini was third. The Western team is also leading their Region, winning 5 out of their 6 shows. Many of these have been double victories as the team usually hosts two shows at one event. The IDA team has been going strong. They are first in the team standings in IDA Region C and freshman Katie Ehlers is currently leading for First Level. Junior captain Hannah Wild is also leading in Upper Training. The Equine Center will host IDA Nationals at the Equine Center on April 28-29, 2012. The Hunter/Jumper team has hosted two successful events at the Equine Center and travelled to two outside shows with their riders placing consistently on top of the ribbons. They are attending their last show of the semester this weekend, December 11-12, at Hunter Farms in Princeton, NJ. Senior Candice Schober competed at the 2011 USHJA EAP Finals held in Illinois on November 17-20. She was chosen by Jennifer Alfano, a top hunter rider and well-respected individual in the horse industry, for the Stable Management Award. This award is presented to the rider who is the most organized and has the best horse management skills at the show.   Great job to everyone!! Congratulations!!   ]]> Academic Programs (All) Wed, 07 Dec 2011 11:52:00 -0500 The EVERGREEN Group is Looking for New Members http://www.centenarycollege.edu/cms/en/news-events-announcements-index/news-article/article/the-evergreen-group-is-looking-for-new-members/ ]]>The EVERGREEN Group is Looking for New Members]]> The EVERGREEN group is looking for new members Centenary College has several student groups on campus with an environmental focus.  These groups have recently joined forces to create the “EVERGREEN group” which will be the umbrella organization for any student groups that focus on sustainability.  The environmental group was formed in 2007 and focuses their efforts on reducing, reusing, and recycling materials on campus.  They are active in local and national clean up events every semester.  They also participate in a beach sweep event sponsored by Clean Ocean Action every year.  Another student group under the umbrella is the Centenary College Community Garden.  In the spring of 2011 this group broke ground and is currently harvesting produce from the garden.  The ultimate goal of the community garden group is to be able to donate produce to families in need as well as get the community involved.  This group has already demonstrated their commitment to community involvement by working with several organizations and community volunteers to plant and harvest the current produce. The primary goal of the EVERGREEN group is to raise environmental awareness on campus and in the community, and to establish the Centenary College as an beacon in environmental stewardship through goal-oriented campaigns, activism, education, and the yearly presentation of Earth Day. The group is looking for new members who care about the environment and want to join forces in our efforts for sustainability on campus. Our meetings are every Monday, at 4pm, in Trevorrow 22.
