Senior Jen Dexter tallied a hat trick for the Cyclones.

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (September 4, 2010) – Senior Jen Dexter (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) recorded a hat trick and three other Lady Cyclones tallied two points apiece as the Centenary women’s soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a convincing 5-1 win over King’s, part of the Cyclone Kickoff Classic, Saturday in Hackettstown, N.J. In the first game of the tournament, Drew defeated Medgar Evers, 9-0.

Juniors Brittany Overland (Andover, N.J./Newton) and Tatiana Kingston (Mountainside, N.J./Governor Livingston) each recorded two assists and senior Jazmine Farrell (Newton, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) recorded a goal and an assist for the Cyclones. Junior Caitlin Veverka (Bayonne, N.J./Holy Family Academy) scored one goal, a beautiful header off a corner kick from Kingston.

Centenary took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Overland took the ball from the right side into the box and found a cutting Dexter, who then sent the ball to the back of the net for the early lead. That lead would stand until the second half, when Farrell found Dexter for her second goal of the game and a 2-0 Cyclones’ lead.

King’s was able to cut the lead in half with a goal by Holly Spikol in the 67th minute. However, Centenary was too strong down the stretch, as Veverka, Farrell and Dexter all tallied to break the game open and give the Cyclones the 5-1 win. Senior goalkeeper Ashley Denti (Sergentsville, N.J./Hunterdon Central) posted four saves to preserve the victory while her counterpart, Danielle Johnson, recorded 11 saves in the loss.

Centenary and Drew will face off on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. to determine the winner of the Cyclone Kickoff Classic. King’s and Medgar Evers will play at 1:00 p.m.
