Women's Soccer Falls In OT
POMONA, N.J. (September 8, 2010) – The Centenary women’s soccer team suffered a tough overtime loss on Wednesday night, falling at Richard Stockton, 3-2, in Pomona, N.J. With the defeat, the Lady Cyclones dropped to 2-2 on the season while the Ospreys improved to 4-0.
Centenary was outshot in the contest, 17-7, but finished with five shots on goal to the Ospreys’ seven. CC took just two corner kicks while Stockton recorded five, including three in the overtime session. Seniors Jen Dexter (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) and Bianca Santulli (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) each tallied for CC while fellow classmate Ashley Denti (Sergentsville, N.J./Hunterdon Central) stopped four shots in the loss.
In the first half, Centenary rebounded quickly after Stockton found the back of the net in the 16th minute, as Dexter netted her fourth goal of the season in the 18th minute to tie the game. That score held until the 75th minute, when RSC’s Dailey Todd scored to give the home squad a 2-1 edge. But with just over 4:30 remaining in regulation, Santulli knotted the game at two with her second penalty kick of the season, sending the game into overtime. In the 96th minute, however, Briana Fischer found Leah Pocoroba for the gamewinner.
Centenary returns to action with the TCNJ/adidas Classic, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11-12, in Ewing, N.J. The Lady Cyclones will face No. 24 Eastern on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., followed by a contest against Husson on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
