Volleyball Drops Two Hard-Fought Contests In Greyhound Invitational
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (September 4, 2010) – The Centenary women’s volleyball team (1-3) dropped both of its matches on the second day of the seventh-annual Greyhound Invitational, Saturday on the campus of Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. Junior Kelsey Walter (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) finished with 31 digs to move into first-place on the program's all-time list, passing current assistant coach Christina Boyer.
After splitting its first two games of the tournament on Friday, Centenary came out flat in the first set against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Cabrini, falling 25-9. Although the Cavaliers would go on to win the match in three games, the Lady Cyclones fought hard, dropping the second two sets 25-22 and 25-23, respectively. Markovic posted 22 assists, three kills, three aces and one dig while junior Devon Paffendorf (Hackettstown, N.J./Mount Olive) recorded 11 kills in the loss.
Against Wilkes, CC dropped a pair of 25-22 sets to open the match before Wilkes won the contest with a 25-18 victory in the third game. Paffendorf again posted 11 kills while Markovic recorded 19 assists and six digs.
Sophomore Jelena Markovic (Brcko, Bosnia and Herzegovina/The Economic School) was named to the All-Tournament team for the second consecutive year.
The Lady Cyclones return to action on Friday, Sept. 10, with the University of Scranton Tournament.
