Volleyball Competes In NYU Violet Classic

Sophomore Jelena Markovic was named to the NYU Violet Classic All-Tournament team.

NEW YORK, N.Y. (September 25, 2010) – The Centenary volleyball team competed in the NYU Violet Classic, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24-25, on the campus of NYU in New York, N.Y. The Lady Cyclones (3-14) finished in fourth-place out of six teams after going 1-3 in the two-day event. The host team won the tournament thanks to a 4-0 record.

Sophomore Jelena Markovic (Brcko, Bosnia and Herzegovina/The Economic School) was named to the All-Tournament time, marking her fourth such award this season.

On Friday, Centenary dropped two straight-set contests, first to Elmhurst (25-14, 25-11, 25-15), then to Hunter (25-20, 25-23, 25-18). On Saturday, the Lady Cyclones took revenge on CCNY, defeating the Beavers, 20-25, 26-24, 25-23 and 25-21, after losing to them, 0-3, in the Kean Invitational on Sept. 18. CC followed that with a tough 3-1 loss to Bates, 27-25, 18-25, 25-10 and 25-16, to complete the tournament.

Centenary returns to action on Monday, Sept. 27, with its home opener, against Delaware Valley at 6:00 p.m.
