Hackettstown, N.J. – Warren Kellam, a resident of Sparta, was honored recently with a 2012 Centenary College Alumni Association Scholarship of $500.00 during Homecoming and Alumni Weekend at Centenary College.

The recipient of this award was selected from the College’s School of Professional Studies based on merit and need.  Currently, he is studying for his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology at the College’s learning center in Parsippany.

Kellam has had a very diverse career, starting in the 1980s as a truck driver, warehouse worker and a union carpenter.  In the 1990s, he transferred his skills into a position as a maintenance mechanic with a local school district for 13 years.  He then became an entrepreneur and then later worked at a local hospital.  In 2009, he was laid off from the hospital and decided to enroll in his current program at Centenary College.

“My wife inspired me to return to college, telling me it was never too late to learn,” says Kellam.  “I am so pleased with my decision to become a Centenary student.”

Kellam is now working at MARS Global Services as a facility specialist for Transwestern.  He maintains a 4.0 G.P.A. at Centenary College and attributes his success to his professors who make classes interesting and bring real world experience to their lesson plans.  He is scheduled to graduate in the Spring of 2015.

“I look forward to being able to implement all of the good lessons that I learned at Centenary moving forward in my professional career,” says Kellam.

First established in 1999, the School of Professional Studies provides an entrepreneurial approach to the educational experience by offering professional studies to an adult population, allowing students to select the modality most conducive to their busy lifestyle.  Students can take classes in a variety of formats: in the classroom, online or through a blended approach, in which courses are conducted both ways.

The curriculum combines theory and practical experience, allowing students to apply knowledge acquired immediately.  Having conferred over 2,600 A.A., B.S., and M.B.A. degrees, the School of Professional Studies serves as an inclusive and collaborative learning community dedicated to preparing adult students to progress further in society and to contribute directly to the state’s economic engine.

Founded in 1867 by the Newark Conference of the United Methodist Church, Centenary College’s academic program integrates a solid liberal arts foundation with a strong career orientation. This mix is designed to provide an educational experience that prepares students to succeed in the increasingly global and interdependent world.
