Men's Soccer Unable To Hold Lead At Eastern
ST. DAVIDS, Pa. (September 25, 2010) – The Centenary men’s soccer team (3-5) scored early to take a 1-0 lead but was unable to hold the advantage, eventually succumbing to Eastern, 4-1, Saturday in St. Davids, Pa. EU (4-2-1) scored three times in the second half to pull away for the victory.
CC opened the scoring in the 13th minute when juniors Dan Berniz (Budd Lake, N.J./Mount Olive), Andrew Pinnella (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) and Alex Walters (Sciota, Pa./Pleasant Valley) collaborated on the goal. For Berniz, it marked first assist as a Cyclone. Pinnella picked up his team-leading 13th point of the season and Walters recorded his second goal of 2010.
In the second half, Eastern’s Dexter Lamparter found his scoring touch, tallying a hat trick in the stanza with goals in the 72nd, 84th and 89th minutes. Cyclones’ junior goalkeeper Jason Rogers (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) recorded four saves in the loss.
Centenary returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 29, with its first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest, at Marywood at 7:00 p.m.
