Men's Soccer Defeats Baptist Bible for First Conference Victory
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (October 2, 2010) – The Centenary men’s soccer team (4-6, 1-1) earned their first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) win with a 3-0 defeat of Baptist Bible (3-8, 1-2) at Cyclone Field on Saturday.
Centenary controlled the first half, but was unable to muster a goal until junior Kyle Thompson (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) scored in the 40th minute off the assist from junior Dan Berniz (Budd Lake, N.J./Mount Olive). Thompson waited until the 10th game to score his first goal, but only waited two minutes to score his second as he added another goal in the 42nd minute to give the Cyclones a 2-0 lead headed into halftime.
Must like the first half, the second was controlled by the Cyclones. Junior Andrew Pinnella (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) scored his sixth goal of the season off the assist from freshman Reid Meeker (Phillipsburg, N.J./Notre Dame Green Pond) to give the Cyclones a 3-0 lead. That score would hold for the remainder of the game.
Centenary outshot Baptist Bible, 20-10. Junior goalkeeper Jason Rogers (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) had 4 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season. The Cyclones were led in shots by Andrew Pinnella and fellow junior, Alex Walters (Sciota, Pa./Pleasant Valley), who each tallied four shots.
Centenary returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 5, when the Cyclones travel to face Cabrini College at 4:00 p.m.
