Men’s And Women’s Cross Country Each Place Third In Keystone Invitational

Junior Brian Dunphy placed third to lead the Cyclones.

LA PLUME, Pa. (September 11, 2010) – Junior Brian Dunphy (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) and senior Chad Lepes (Sussex, N.J./High Point) placed third and fourth, respectively, out of 38 total runners to lead the Centenary men’s cross country team to a third-place finish out of six schools at the Keystone Invitational, Saturday at La Plume, Pa. Junior Chelsea Gummerson (Newton, N.J./Kittatinny) paced the women’s team with a seventh-place finish as the Lady Cyclones took third as well.

Dunphy ran the race in 31:16.9, followed closely behind by Lepes, who finished in 31:17.1. It marks both runners’ best finish this season and the highest place by a Centenary student-athlete since Dunphy took first at the Falcon Classic on Sept. 19, 2009. Freshmen Rob Ambrose (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) and Justin Theriault (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) placed 15th and 30th with times of 34:14.7 and 41:09.4, respectively, and junior Erik Hoagland (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) rounded out the Centenary squad with a 53:42.0 run.

On the women’s side, Gummerson finished with a time of 23:20.8, followed by freshman Kelly Pascarella (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay), who placed 10th with a time of 24:25.6 and fellow classmate Sarah Sharpe (Medford Lakes, N.J./Shawnee), who completed the run in 26:04.4. Junior Lauren LaMotta (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) and sophomore Kelly Nielsen (Somerset, N.J./Franklin) recorded times of 30:31.1 and 30:38.2, respectively.

The two teams return to action on Saturday, Sept. 18, with the Mule-Falcon Classic, to be held on the campus of Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pa.
