Manos Places First in Purchase Invitational
PURCHASE, N.Y. (September 21, 2010) – Centenary junior, John Manos (Hackettstown, N.J./Mount Olive), placed first at the Purchase College Golf Invitational on Tuesday. This is the first time a Centenary golfer has placed first in competition in the school's history. Manos shot a 78 (+8) and defeated John Lee of Nyack College by one stroke.
The rest of the Cyclone team shot respectable scores as senior Sean Kelley (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) placed 22nd and shot a 90, freshman Kevin Peters (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) shot a 92 and placed 25th, sophomore Brian Criscuolo (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) shot a 95 and placed 28th and freshman Will Hawthorne (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) placed 30th with a 96. There were 44 total golfers that competed.
Overall, the Cyclones placed fourth out of nine teams, with Manhattan College placing first. Nyack and Concordia were second and third respectively. The tournament was held at the acclaimed Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase, N.Y. The course was built in 1925 and has hosted numerous MGA tournaments and U.S. Open Sectional Qualifiers.
