HELP WANTED: Summer Staff Position - Summer Culture & Language Program

School of International Programs-Seeking Summer Staff Position for 

Summer Culture & Language Program (June 24th - August 10th, 2013)

 

Overview: Centenary College Summer Culture & Language Program is a six-week, intensive/comprehensive language program enabling international participants (college level students) to experience American college life as well as American Culture.

 

Commitment Dates for SCLP 2013 are June 24th-August 10th(1 week training + 6-week program) Salary is $2,000 (IRA), plus FREE apartment and meals. You will accompany students on weekend trips to New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Washington D.C. Intercultural Resident Assistants (IRA)

Intercultural Resident Assistants (IRA) are responsible for working closely with Director of the SCLP to ensure that program runs smoothly and effectively by assisting the daily activities and weekend field trips of the SCLP and providing direct involvement in its group. Each IRA is also responsible for playing a key role in building and maintaining “community” throughout the SCLP by overseeing both formal and informal activities that will promote international community development. IRAs should be qualified to carry out the following duties: 

  • Enforcement of program rules and policies
  • Handle crisis management within an international residence hall
  • Provide support for international residents by assisting students to adjust to American culture
  • Be responsible for security and safety of students
  • Administrative assignments include attending staff meetings, completing reports, etc.

 

Eligibility and Requirements

Selection of IRAs is a highly competitive process and positions will be awarded to students who have the potential to be excellent intercultural travelers and community organizers. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated excellent academic progress, and are involved in extra-curricular activities, and have prior experience organizing student community programs. Applicants must meet the following program requirements to be considered for these positions:

(Intercultural Resident Assistant)

•  GPA of 3.00 or higher

•  Sophomore, junior, or senior standing

•  Commit to a 7-day training session on campus held from June 24-June 30, 2013.

•  Commit to working for 6 weeks on our summer program, which runs from July 1 to August 10, 2013.

•  IRAs may NOT hold any other employment during the period of time and may NOT enroll in any summer session II classes
