Volunteers Sought for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Response Team – Winter Training

Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Response Team Volunteers Wanted

The Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Warren County in conjunction with Warren County Prosecutor’s Office and local police departments have a team of trained volunteer victim advocates available to meet confidentially with domestic violence and sexual assault victims at police headquarters and hospitals 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.

Volunteer advocates of the Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) and Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) work in conjunction with police and the prosecutor’s office to provide support, information, referrals, and a safety plan to victims at their time of crisis.  The advocates, who are civilian members of the community, also discuss with the victim their legal rights in regard to obtaining a Temporary Restraining Order and may accompany the victim through their sexual assault forensic examination.

Applicants must be Warren County residents, be at least 18 years of age, have access to transportation, possess a valid driver’s license, be willing to serve on an on-call shift basis, and submit to background investigations and fingerprinting.  Successful applicants must complete a free 60-hour training course in January and February. Bi-lingual capability a plus.  Contact Erin Hodgson at ehodgson@besafewc.org or 908 453 4121, ext. 313.
