A brief summary of the talk:
Diversity has become an integral part of American corporations since the globalization of the marketplace and workplace. To compete in the diverse markets, the knowledge and understanding of diversity is a necessity for long-term success of both companies and individuals. It is why companies often limit their on-campus recruiting effort to only colleges and universities with diverse student population. Companies value employees who are ready to take on the challenges in the global market and manage a diverse workforce. In other words, diversity is not simply a moral issue. It is a practical issue as well.
The lecture will touch upon three key questions on diversity to help students/faculty/administrators understand the role of diversity in education, job search, and career planning.
- What does diversity have anything to do with me?
- What is the cause of the common problems?
- What can/should I do?
The focus is going to be on preparing the students for the new challenges in the corporate world, and how the Centenary College community can help them achieve diversity readiness.
