Junior Andrew Pinnella scored both goals in leading the Cyclones to victory

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (September 15, 2010) – The Centenary men’s soccer team (1-4) got their first victory of the season by beating Mount Saint Mary 2-0 on Wednesday. The Cyclones tallied two goals early in the first half and that was the difference as they held off the pesky Knights to earn the win.

Centenary junior Andrew Pinnella (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) scored both goals. The first came in the fourth minute and was off a long kick by goalkeeper Jason Rogers (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) that bounced over the defense, setting up Pinnella for a breakaway. Pinnella scored the second goal just five minutes later on a putback off his own shot. Pinnella led the Cyclones with five shots, four of them on goal. Senior Mike Burke (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) and junior Daniel Berniz (Budd Lake, N.J./Mount Olive) each tallied four shots respectively.

Junior goalkeeper Jason Rogers, who was starting in his first game of the season after injuring his leg in the pre-season was solid in net registering nine saves for the shutout. Freshman Matthew Darling recorded eight saves in the loss for Mount Saint Mary.

The Cyclones are next in action on Saturday, Sept. 18 when they host Berkeley College at 3:00PM
