Members of the community are invited to purchase cookies and lemonade on October 1, 2010, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at this location.
Created in 2004 by the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Livestrong Day is an annual global event to support cancer survivors and to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. “Cookies for Kids’ Cancer” and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation help support efforts to find better treatment options for pediatric cancer. This is the first year that Centenary College will be working in conjunction with these organizations in their efforts to fight cancer.
“We see so many people affected by cancer in our community - faculty, staff, and even the children of our co-workers,” said Melissa Barry, Director of Freshman Enrollment. “This is a perfect opportunity to show our support for all of those affected by cancer in our own community.”
As part of Livestrong Day, participants are asked to wear yellow shirts to promote awareness for the event on Friday, October 1 and Saturday, October 2. Free coffee will be provided to all those wearing yellow. Participants are also encouraged to make a monetary donation of $5 to the cause and can purchase Livestrong bracelets for $2. The “Cookies for Kids’ Cancer” bake sale will be held on October 1 , 2010, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the David and Carol Lackland Center and on Saturday October 2, 2010 at 1 p.m. during the Lady Cyclones volleyball game in the Folkner Family Gymnasium. The cookies are home-made by members of Centenary’s faculty and staff . The Women’s Basketball team and the Omega Rho Fraternity will be selling the cookies and lemonade.
“Since we know so many people whose lives are touched by cancer, this event hits very close to home for us,” says Women’s Head Basketball Coach Lorie Khalil. “We are willing to do anything that benefits this important cause.”
