Centenary's Pinnella And Markovic Receive CSAC Weekly Awards

Men's soccer juniors Andrew Pinnella (above) and Jason Rogers were named Co-Male Cyclones of the Week and volleyball sophomore Jelena Markovic was named Female Cyclone of the Week.

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (September 13, 2010) – The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) announced its award winners for the week of Sept. 19, and Centenary men's soccer junior Andrew Pinnella (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) was named Player of the Week. It marks the first conference honor he has received this year. Volleyball sophomore Jelena Markovic (Brcko, Bosnia and Herzegovina/The Economic School) took home Weekly Honor Roll accolades.
Thanks to Pinnella and junior goalkeeper Jason Rogers (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills), the men's soccer team went 2-0 on the week with a pair of shutouts. For their efforts, the two were named Co-Male Cyclones of the Week. Markovic posted 90 assists, 24 digs, 18 kills, 11 aces and four blocks in five matches on the week and was named to the Kean Invitational All-Tournament Team to earn Female Cyclone of the Week honors.
Pinnella was a factor in all five of Centenary’s goals in the two games, scoring four and assisting on the fifth. In the team’s 2-0 win over Mount Saint Mary on Sept. 15, the junior scored twice, and then followed that with a two-goal, one-assist performance in CC’s 3-0 win over Berkeley on Saturday. Rogers played all 180 minutes in the two games and recorded 13 saves to pick up the sixth and seventh cleansheets of his career, moving him into first-place in the program’s history in that category.
Centenary returns to action on Monday with a road contest at non-conference foe Brooklyn at 4:00 p.m.
Markovic posted 24 assists and five aces in Centenary’s 3-0 win over conference foe Rosemont College on Sept. 15 that improved the Lady Cyclones to 1-0 in CSAC action. In the Kean Invitational, she finished with 66 assists, 24 digs, 17 kills, six aces and four blocks in four contests. Her successful tournament included a double-double in the team’s 3-1 loss to Kean, when she finished with 22 assists and 10 digs.
Centenary returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 22, with its home opener. The Lady Cyclones will take on CSAC opponent Neumann at 7:00 p.m., in the Folkner Family Gymnasium. Between the second and third set of the match, the Athletic Department will announce the winners of the Council for Student-Athletes (CSA) Team Academic Achievement Award, given to the three Centenary teams with the highest cumulative team GPA.
