Institute for Law Enforcement & Emergency Services Education (ILEESE) to Run a Seminar on "Emotional Survival for the Emergency Services Professional" on May 25, 2010.
Hackettstown, N.J., May 17, 2010 — Centenary College’s Institute for Law Enforcement & Emergency Services Education (ILEESE) will be conducting a seminar on “Emotional Survival for the Emergency Services Professional” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 25, 2010, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Hackettstown. The seminar is funded at no cost to participants through a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
Dr. Kevin Gilmartin, who is a behavioral sciences and management consultant, will lead this seminar. Topics will include a review of the of the potential impact emergency services professionals’ career has on their personal life and to develop strategies for overall emotional survival. The strategies are designed to permit professionals to continue functioning effectively and ethically without “burning out” and without resorting to emotional isolation from friends and colleagues.
Dr. Gilmartin specializes in the law enforcement and public safety areas. He spent 20 years in law enforcement in Tucson, Arizona. During his tenure, he supervised the Behavioral Sciences Unit and the Hostage Negotiations Team. He presently maintains a consulting relationship with law enforcement agencies in the United States and Canada. He holds adjunct faculty positions with the University of Massachusetts Police Leadership Institute and the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas at Sam Houston State University. He is a guest instructor at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and a faculty member of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Institute (LEEDS, EDI and the National Executive Development Institute).
He is retained by several Federal Law Enforcement Critical Incident Response Teams. He is a charter member of the IACP: Psychological Services Section and former Vice President of the Society of Police and Criminal Psychology. He holds a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Arizona. In addition to being the author of the book, “Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement” he is the author of numerous articles published by the Department of Justice, the IACP and the FBI. He is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND EMERGENCY SERVICES EDUCATION (ILEESE)
This Institute was made possible by a grant of $894,348 awarded to Centenary College from the U.S. Department of Justice to develop a fully-integrated incident response and crisis management training for law enforcement agencies and first responders in small rural and suburban communities in northwest New Jersey, as announced by Congressman E. Scott Garrett in June 2008. The Institute provides training to approximately 90 towns in Warren, Sussex and Hunterdon counties.
