Hackettstown, N.J. – Centenary College’s office on Main Street, “Centenary Downtown,” will begin providing free one-on-one tutoring services to the students of Hackettstown High School, for the month of April. The office is located at 217 Main Street in Hackettstown.

Centenary Downtown already provides free tutoring services to elementary school students between 2nd and 6th grade from all schools in the area. Tutoring at the high school level, however, will be offered exclusively to students of Hackettstown High School. Tutoring for elementary school students runs Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m., while tutoring sessions for high school students will run Wednesdays from 3 to 4 p.m. Math tutoring sessions at Centenary Downtown are managed by Kathy Turrisi, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Centenary College.  Tutors include members of the Centenary College Kappa Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society and Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Society.

“Centenary Downtown has done a terrific job in assisting children with their learning needs through this program,” says Nancy Paffendorf, Dean for Community and College Affairs at Centenary College.  “Professor Turrisi has done a wonderful job running the program.  I am thrilled we are beginning to extend those same opportunities to the older students who need them, as well.”

In addition to student tutoring services, Centenary Downtown also reaches out to the adult community through its Counseling for Veterans Program, which provides free counseling to combat-area veterans.

Theater-goers also can find benefit through Centenary Downtown at the Centenary Stage Company Box Office located there, where tickets for upcoming shows at the College can be purchased.
