Hackettstown, N.J., September 10, 2010 – Centenary College’s Psychology Honor Society, Psi Chi, will be conducting a 5K (3.1 miles) handicap-accessible fun run (or walk) on October 2, 2010.  Registration will be held at 9 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10 a.m. The starting and finishing lines will be located in front of the Edward W. Seay Administration Building.  The course consists of five laps around the Centenary campus. Proceeds will benefit The Arc of Warren County.  This is Psi Chi’s second annual 5K4Kids with Disabilities event.  Last year, Psi Chi raised funds for the P.G. Chambers School.

“Psi Chi is very involved in many community services efforts and this is one more effort that we support,” says Amanda Ziemba, President of Centenary’s Psi Chi Chapter.  “For example, in the past, members of the society have donated time to the Norwescap Food Drive and for various Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Crisis Center events.  I am pleased we can help The Arc of Warren County, in this manner.”

The Arc of Warren County was founded in 1954 by parents, educators, and other interested individuals who recognized the need for a comprehensive program of service and support for their children who had intellectual and related developmental disabilities.  The Arc today serves more than 1,100 people annually.  The number includes persons with disabilities and their family members.  Countywide programs include community living arrangements, recreation, supported employment, family support, advocacy, early intervention, case management and a wide range of social services.

The Arc of Warren County is part of a state and national Arc network of providers that offers quality services and programs to more than 3 million people in the United States each year.

Prices to participate in the walk vary.  For more information, please call Dr. Keith Morgen, Psi Chi Faculty Advisor at 908-852-1400, ext. 2419 or e-mail ziembaa@centenarycollege.edu
