Centenary College Sociology and Criminal Justice Club to Run 3-on-3 Wheelchair Basketball Fundraiser

03/31/2014, 03:05 PM

Hackettstown, N.J., – Centenary College’s Sociology and Criminal Justice Club along with the Sports Management Association will be holding a 3 on 3 Wheelchair and Traditional Basketball Tournament to support Focus on the Future, the food bank in Independence Township (N.J.), from 6 to 10 p.m. April 9, 2014, in the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center.  There is no cost to attend, though teams of 3 are asked to donate 30 cans of non-perishable food items or make a monetary donation in lieu of an entrance fee.

Focus on the Future was founded 11 years ago through a cooperative effort between Independence Township Police Chief Dennis Riley and Pastor Jim Craig of the Vienna United Methodist Church.  As of January 2014, the Bank assists 60 families on a bi-weekly or monthly basis.  In addition, Focus on the Future hosts a Christmas gift drive at the Great Meadows Middle School.

“This is the third year Centenary has supported us in both our basketball tournament and our cause,” says Chief Riley. “We’re always working harder to help provide for families and children in need of everyday things we take for granted, whether it is toys, shampoo, toiletries or even food. We’re delighted Centenary College is just as eager to work with us and reach this goal. Working together, we not only help families, but we strengthen the sense of community that is present in Warren County.”

For more information or if you want to donate cans, please call Edward Meadow, President of the Sociology and Criminal Justice Club, at (201) 873-6548, or Chief Riley at (908) 637-6582.
