College Offers Just Dance! through the 2010 Summer Scholars Program.
Hackettstown, N.J., June 21, 2010 – Centenary Summer Scholars, a co-ed academic camp for rising 8th – 12th grade students located on the campus of Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ will be offering a class entitled Just Dance! from July 18 –July 23 and July 25 – July 30 as part of its academic programming.
This is the first year Just Dance! has been offered in the Centenary Summer Scholars. The program is designed to expose students to a wide variety of dance and movement, including modern, ballet, jazz, hip-hop contact improvisation, lyrical dance and more.
While the courses do not require that a student meet a specific skill level, it is suggested that the student have some previous dance training, is comfortable engaging in physical activity for extended periods of time, and is willing to try new techniques and have fun.
The Just Dance! program at Centenary Summer Scholars provides the young dancers with high-quality dance instruction taught by masters in the field of dance. It is designed to introduce young dancers to professionals who are currently working as choreographers, dancers and educators in the dance world. The classes will focus on various dance disciplines to help the dancer improve his or her technical skills as well as explore artist expression, team building and creativity. The week will conclude with a dance presentation by the participants in the program.
"We are so pleased to add Dance to the Summer Scholars curriculum," says Doug Hooper, Centenary College Summer Scholars Coordinator. "We are getting a lot of feedback that this was a subject that teens wanted to learn more about to bring their dance skills to the next level."
Instructors in the Just Dance! include local professionals, Christine Mase (adjunct professor at Centenary College and Branchville Dance Center; teaching “Ballet” and “Turns and Leaps”), Kristen Egan (Head of Dance, County College of Morris, and adjunct professor at Centenary College; teaching Contemporary Modern Dance and Ballet), Lea Antolini-Lid (assistant professor of Theatre/Dance, Centenary College and Certified Yoga Instructor; teaching Contact Improv/Creative Movement), Trayer Run Kowzan (adjunct professor, County College of Morris/Centenary College; teaching Chinese Dance and Horton Modern Technique), Megan Corbitt (recent dance concentration graduate Centenary College; teaching Hip–Hop) and Dana Harrington (recent graduate of Muhlenberg College; teaching Jazz and Musical Theater Dance).
