College Offers Displaced Teachers Support with Special Program Entitled "Education After the Classroom" on June 21, 2010
Hackettstown, N.J., June 15, 2010 – Teachers who have recently lost their jobs due to budget cuts are invited to Centenary’s “Education After the Classroom” event at the Robert E. and Virginia N. Littell Technology Center at 5 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2010. This is a free event and dinner will be served.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about education trends from Centenary’s Education Department faculty, discuss different career path options within the teaching profession, have the opportunity to network with others and learn if they are eligible to continue their education at a discount if they were employed by a participating Professional Development School.
Centenary College has a history of helping its constituents during tough economic times. In the past, Centenary had offered a discount to displaced workers in general and this is the second consecutive year that Centenary has provided free housing for students who have enrolled in two classes during its first summer session. Centenary College is also a proud sponsor of the Yellow Ribbon Program and offers a 30 percent tuition reduction for qualified military personnel. A 30 percent tuition reduction also applies to qualified members of law enforcement.
“Centenary College has consistently provided support to different populations that have been in need,” says Diane Finnan, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Strategic Branding. “Many New Jersey teachers have lost their jobs this year due to budget cuts and we want to help them through this transition. It is my hope that this event will provide them with some insight and ideas for the next phase of their professional life.”
Please RSVP to Sherri Weiss at (908) 852-1400, ext. 2073. For more information, please go to www.centenarycollege.edu/pds.
