Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department Inducts Members into Their Honor Societies
Hackettstown, N.J., May 10, 2010 – Centenary College’s Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department recently inducted new members into their honor societies, Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) Omega Rho Chapter (National Biological Honor Society) and Kappa Mu Episilon (KME) Delta New Jersey Chapter (Mathematics Honor Society).

Some of these students also received the following merit awards:
The CRC Press Freshman Chemistry Achievement Award is given in recognition of outstanding scholarship achievement in Chemistry for the 2009-2010 academic year. This year Kellie Thompson was given this award.
The Heath Prize in Chemistry is presented to the student who demonstrates aptitude and scholastic achievement in the study of Chemistry. Jennifer Crithary will be given this award at Commencement on May 15, 2010.
The Stutzman Prize in Biology is awarded to the student who demonstrates aptitude, academic achievement, and a commitment to the study of Biology. Ronald Swingle Jr. will be given this award at Commencement on May 15, 2010.
Biology Merit Awards were given to Victoria Floriani, Hollianne Eckerd, Jennifer Crithary, Rebecca Hawke, Kristen Wirasnik.
Mathematics Merit Awards were given to Ismael Garcia and Andrew Pancoast.
"These students represent those who have excelled academically in their field,” says Professor Kathy Turrisi, Chair of the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department and Associate Professor of Mathematics. “The Department is pleased to have this opportunity to publically commend them on their accomplishments."

Kappa Mu Epsilon (KME) is a specialized honor society in Mathematics. KME was founded in 1931 to promote the interest of mathematics among undergraduate and graduate students. Its chapters are located in colleges and universities of recognized standing which offer a strong Mathematics major. The Chapters’ members are selected from students of Mathematics and other closely related fields who have maintained standards of scholarship have professional merit and have attained academic distinction.
