College Celebrates the Anticipated Opening of the David and Carol Lackland Center with a Cornerstone Ceremony
Hackettstown, N.J., June 1, 2010 — Centenary College recently hosted a Cornerstone Ceremony for the anticipated opening of the David and Carol Lackland Center at its Hackettstown campus.
Carol Burgess Lackland ’54 is an alumna and a Centenary College President’s Circle Member, and David A. Lackland is a College Trustee. Together, they have committed time and resources that will leave a lasting legacy at Centenary College, including providing the lead gift toward the David and Carol Lackland Center.
“Having this ceremony represents that we are one step closer to opening this magnificent building,” says Dr. Barbara-Jayne Lewthwaite, Centenary College President. “It will be a resource to the community at large. Look for the many innovative programs and events that will take place in this building.”
The Center, which is expected to be completed this fall, will be the cultural hub for northwest New Jersey. The 68,000-square-foot building will include the following: a 500-seat theater named the Sitnik Theater; the Edith Bolte Kutz ’42 Theater, which is a black box theater; a 400-seat dining hall; a 55-seat café; a dance studio; WNTI 91.9 FM, the listener-supported radio station; CCTV Channel 23, the Comcast-licensed television station; as well as classrooms, offices, meeting spaces and lounges.
“People living in the Northwestern part of New Jersey are fortunate to have Centenary College in their backyard,” says Virginia N. Littell, Chairman of the Capital Campaign for Centenary College. “It is an institution that offers many different programs to our students who come here from New Jersey, as well as across the globe. The creation of The David and Carol Lackland Center is yet another reason why individuals will want to visit this campus!”
