Hackettstown, N.J.  – Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has named Centenary College to the coveted Military Friendly Schools list. The 2013 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

“Inclusion on the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools shows Centenary College’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” says Sean Collins, Director for G.I. Jobs and Vice President at Victory Media.   “As interest in education grows, we’re thrilled to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their college search.”

Now in its fourth year, the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools ® was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. Ernst and Young LLP independently verified the survey tabulation process, methodology and weightings that comprise the 2013 list.   Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria, and weightings developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country.

Centenary College is a member of the Yellow Ribbon Program, a benefit authorized under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.  Veterans who are eligible for the Yellow Ribbon program, as determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs, can receive funding up to $17,500 per academic year, which is the current national cap. Remaining tuition expenses will be divided between Centenary College and Veterans Affairs.  Veterans who are not eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program may qualify for other veteran assistance programs at Centenary College.  This program is available for students pursuing both undergraduate and graduate programs.

“It is an honor to receive this designation because serving the nations veterans is an important issue,” says Centenary College President Dr. Barbara-Jayne Lewthwaite.  “Centenary strives to provide veterans with many valuable educational opportunities in recognition of their longstanding commitment to the betterment of this country.”
