Hackettstown, N.J., August 27, 2010 — Centenary College will be holding its official opening of the David and Carol Lackland Center on September 30, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. at the Center’s main entrance.

The afternoon will include a building dedication of the Lackland Center and a time-capsule ceremony where Centenary memorabilia will be stored for 50 years, to be opened again by the Centenary Community on September 30, 2060!  The ceremony will conclude with tours and informational sessions of the building.

The David and Carol Lackland Center was the cornerstone project of phase II of The Capital Campaign of Centenary College.  Carol Burgess Lackland ’54, an alumna and a Centenary College President’s Circle Member, and David A. Lackland , a College Trustee committed time and resources that will leave a lasting legacy at Centenary College, including providing the lead gift toward the David and Carol Lackland Center.

“This ceremony represents the culmination of all of the hard work and effort to make the opening of this building a reality,” says Dr. Barbara-Jayne Lewthwaite, Centenary College President.  “David and Carol Lackland Center is going to be a cultural hub for the area, as well as an arts center for our student population.  Look for the exciting opportunities and events that will be held in this exquisite building.”

The 68,000-square-foot building will provide a home for Centenary Stage Company, WNTI 91.9 FM, the listener-supported radio station, and CCTV Channel 23, the Comcast-licensed television station.  It will also house a 485-seat theater named the Sitnik Theater; the Edith Bolte Kutz ’42 Theater, which is a black box theater; a 400-seat dining hall; a 55-seat café; a dance studio; as well as classrooms, offices, meeting spaces and lounges.
