Centenary Alumnae and Published Authors to Conduct Book Signing and Reading on Homecoming Weekend
Hackettstown, N.J. – Centenary College alumnae and published authors Linda MacDonald and Janet Kipp Tribus, will be giving a book signing and reading at 3 p.m. on October 13, 2012 in the Sitnik Theatre at the David and Carol Lackland Center (address: 715 Grand Ave., Hackettstown). Members of the community are encouraged to attend this event.
Told as an uplifting story to her two grandchildren, Dancing Cancer, the new children’s book by Linda McDonald, is the author’s story of survival through three separate instances of cancer, 30 years apart, starting at age 3. Never one to be defeated, McDonald continued to follow her heart and chase her dreams of dancing, challenging young readers to reach with faith and not fear.
Linda McDonald began her career developing dance and movement classes for children that resulted in improved learning and retention. Her interests, however, turned to using her talents to meet the needs of senior adults, cancer patients and the medically challenged. She was a charter member of the American Dance Therapy Association. She has taught all levels from pre-school through college, and has worked with the deaf, blind, mentally and physically disabled, prisoners, senior adults and cancer survivors.
Alongside McDonald, Janet Kipp Tribus, a self-described “late-bloomer” in the art world, will be presenting her book, Janet Kipp Tribus: A Sampler of Paintings 1981-2007. She began painting in her 30s and credits the encouragement of her husband, Don, and classes at the Art Students’ League in New York for her current success. Pen and ink drawings were an early specialty, and collectors commissioned Janet for house portraits for many years. Inspired by her prominent architect father, Derick Brinckerhoff Kipp, the artist often depicts architectural elements in her paintings.
Both authors belong to the Class of 1962, which will be celebrating its 50th reunion this year. The book reading and signing that these two distinguished Centenary graduates will be presenting is just one event of the many at the Homecoming and Alumni Weekend celebration.
“We are proud and elated to have such esteemed alumnae return to present the college with their compositions,” says Deana Cynar, Director of Alumni Relations at Centenary College. “We are hoping that many community members decide to attend this event, as well.”
To R.S.V.P. for the event, please call (908) 852-1400, ext. 2250, or e-mail alumni@centenarycollege.edu. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
