Databases for Online Research

To access a database just click on its name and it will open in a new window. A short description of each database aggregator is provided below, but be sure to review each individual aggregator for a full listing of all its databases.

Biographies Reference Bank  - Contains short biographies, the primary focus is on 20th Century biography.

Corfacts Online (New Jersey Business-to-Business Directory) - Search a database of over 56,000 New Jersey business profiles.  View, print, or export data as mailing labels.

Country Watch - Provides economic, political, social, investment, and environmental data for over 190 countries.

Credo/ X Refer- A general reference database which is encyclopedic in character.

EBSCO - Use for education, general research, and psychology. Major databases include Academic Search Premier, ERIC, PsycINFO, and PsycArticles. Search help

EBSCO A-Z - Access to the full text of individual periodical titles can be found at this site.

Gale Virtual Reference Library - Online access to electronic reference books. The collection includes books on fashion, the environment, crime, world cultural leaders, statistical information, sociology, ethics and media.

Gender Watch - Focus is on human rights and women's issues.

INFOVETS - The INFOVETS database provides access to an online Equine Veterinary Manual. When you log on select "Online Manual" (call the library for ID and Password).

Jersey Clicks - Jersey Clicks is the portal to the databases provided by the state of New Jersey. The databases cover all topics but with a special emphasis on education databases.  You must use your library card to access this material when you are off campus.

Lexis-Nexis - Lexis-Nexis focuses on News and Legal resources. The scope is international and it is completely full text.

Listen NJ NW  -  This project provides with downloadable audio books. The book are downloaded to you computers.  Many of the books may be burned to CD or downloaded to MP3 Players. You will need a library card to use this service.

Literature Resource Center - Use for literary critical analysis, biographies, bibliographies and literary historical timelines.

Mudpie/Mdpclick - Online fashion trend forecasting service, offers design, fashion and retail professionals global creative intelligence.

New Jersey Knowledge Initiative (NJKI) (VALE) - Databases include MEDLINE as well as 51 other medical journals, such as Stroke, Retina, Pyschosomatic Medicine, Pediatric Research, Journal of Hypertension, Clinical Journal of Pain and many more. 

NoodleTools - Bibliographic citation builder  -- Assists students in creating works cited page in APA or MLA style.  The student must create a personal folder before using the tool.  A basic understand of resource types when using the citation builder.

Oxford Encyclopedia of Social Work - Covers areas that have come to the fore since the 1995 publication of the 19th edition, including demographic changes from immigration, technology, the implications of managed care, faith-based assistance, evidence-based practice, gerontology, and trauma and disaster.  Contains over 400 subject entries and 200 brief biographies of key figures in the history of social work.

Oxford English Dictionary - A guide for the pronunciation, history and meaning of words.

Project Muse - The database offers full text resources in arts, humanities and social sciences.  The database is entirely made up of materials from scholarly publishers such as the Johns Hopkins University Press.

ProQuest - Good for business, economics, finance, humanities, social science, science and general research. Major databases include Historical New York Times, Wall Street Journal, ABI/INFORM, and Hoover's Company Records. Search help

Reference USA - Contains business, residential, and health care databases.

Regional Business News - Contains the full text of fifty regional business publications, including Crains.

Social Work Abstracts -  Created by the National Associaton of Social Workers, this database contains citations to 45,000 records. (The database does not cotain full text)

Vale - Good for business, criminal justice, news and law. Major databases include ABI/INFORM, Lexis Nexis, MLA Bibliography, Criminal Justice Periodical Index and GenderWatch.

X Refer/Credo - A general reference database which is encyclopedic in character.
