On November 11 the class of '54 met to choose their colors. After a long discussion, they decider upon black and white and requested that their jackets be in black with a 'black and silver emblem.

At the same meeting, they picked a committee of sixteen to write the class song. It was presented to the class at the meeting on December 9.  Then and there it was adopted and learned.

On Friday, January 9, the class of '54 presented their colors and class song to the Faculty and Seniors.

As Carol Burgess player the piano, the class entered the dining room from all three entrances. The room was decorated for the presentation under Patsy Everrett’s supervision. On each table were black candles surrounded by white chrysanthemums and black leaves, and the piano held a scroll with the class song written on it. The numbers54," stood on the center table.

When the class had formed a circle around the dining room they sang their class song: Our strong bonds will never be broken Formed at C.J.C. Our memories and  everlasting friendships will reign eternally. Now we’re gathered, soon to part Hope and faith in every hearing.

The black and white Will e’er fly o’er The class of ’54. Thanks to the able leadership and supervision of the class advisor. Miss Walker, and the president. Mar;  Jane Gardner, the Freshman Jacket Ceremony was lovely. The class officers and Miss Walker  joined Dean Hight and President and Mrs Seay for the dinner that followed.
