Meet the First Year Leaders!

First Year Leaders are upper class students at Centenary College who have been hand-picked because of their leadership qualities.

They fill the roles of mentor, friend or informative source for incoming students.

First Year Leaders are here to help new students with a smooth transition from high school to college. These leaders are embedded in the Academic Foundations at Centenary Courses (AFC) and attend every session of their assigned class. In the classroom they are expected to aid the professor. Outside class, the FYL’s are available to tutor students in all AFC related course work and are responsible for coordinating social programs that promote team building and bonding.

Centenary is helping me achieve my goals by improving my riding, helping me explore the equine industry in much more depth than I have ever had the opportunity to, and overall getting a well-rounded education. My favorite memories of Centenary are all the times spent with my friends inside the classroom, at work, and just around campus. Whether it is bonding at FYL training, hanging out in the Writing Collaboratory, late nights spent in the sewing labs, running around campus yelling "Happy Move-In Day!", or just the countless unforgettable nights around campus, those are the memories I will think back on and smile after I graduate.

Centenary is helping me achieve my goals by providing me with many opportunities to get involved on campus and build my confidence as a future professional. Many of my achievements and accomplishments over the past three years would not have been possible if it was not for the amazing connections I have made and guidance I have received at Centenary.

Camille Dawson

AFC Course Placement: AFC 1001 Q Professor Mendres

Class of 2015

Major: Equine and Communications, minor Business

If I could have any superpower it would be to read people's minds. I would choose this because now a day it is so hard to get the honest truth out of many people around us. I feel that if we all just spoke our minds instead of dancing around our opinions the world would be a simpler place.

Centenary is helping me achieve my goals by opening countless doors of opportunity for me. I am so grateful for all the experiences I have received so far including an amazing internship last summer at a top Dressage stable and making tons of new friends on and around campus. I am super excited for the public relations internship I will be fulfilling this summer and can't wait to see what the next two years at Centenary brings me.
