Meet the First Year Leaders!

First Year Leaders are upper class students at Centenary College who have been hand-picked because of their leadership qualities.

They fill the roles of mentor, friend or informative source for incoming students.

First Year Leaders are here to help new students with a smooth transition from high school to college. These leaders are embedded in the Academic Foundations at Centenary Courses (AFC) and attend every session of their assigned class. In the classroom they are expected to aid the professor. Outside class, the FYL’s are available to tutor students in all AFC related course work and are responsible for coordinating social programs that promote team building and bonding.

Centenary is helping me reach my goals by providing me with a great education and the opportunities of internships, which I plan to pursue this year.

A fun fact about myself is that my family and I are Disney Addicts. I've gone to Walt Disney World around 13-14 times in my life. I honestly believe that no matter how old you are, you can never go too many times.

The networking that Centenary offers is quite incredible and is helping me reach my goals. Since it's a small school, there are more opportunities for each student rather than limited prospects spread thinly across the population.

I'm a big reader and movie watcher on the weekends and in my free time. During the summer, I'm only twenty minutes from the beach so that's always an option too.

Centenary has not only become a place where I have grown academically and professionally on many levels, but it is also a place that I call home. Coming from the small town of Mountainside, New Jersey. I love the right-knit community atmosphere, which is contagious on every level. Because of it I have been able t create one-on-one relationships with my professors as well as my classmates.

Being a Fashion Merchandising major my favorite memory, by far, has been participating in the Fashion Coordination and Promotion class during the spring semester. This class is in charge of running the Spring Senior Fashion Show is where I learned invaluable lessons that I will take with me for the rest of my professional career upon graduating in the spring of 2016.

The main reason for me choosing Centenary was the fact that it was one of the few schools that offered fashion merchandising as a major, in addition to that it was a small school.

One of my favorite memories about Centenary was meeting my dance partner Saquan, the one person who inspired me and pushed me the most when it came to dancing.

My decision to attend Centenary was strongly influenced by the extracurricular opportunities and the friendliness of the staff and the students. In addition, I appreciate that the campus is small and that many professors make the effort to collaborate with theirs students' outside of class time. My favorite and most rewarding experience at Centenary is helping students become better writers through peer-to-peer writing consolations in The Writing Collaboratory.

Ultimately, my goal after graduating from Centenary is to pursue a law degree and become an Attorney.

If I could have any super power in the world I would choose the power to heal. I would choose this power because I truly hate seeing others hurt or in pain. I would love to be able to help others no matter what type of pain a person may be going through.

My favorite memories at Centenary consist of my talks after class with my professors. The availability they had for me to help me with school work and my personal matters. I was not a number, but a human being. The friends I made at Centenary College, I know will be some of my friends for life. They have changed my life and have helped me grow each and everyday to the person I want to be. Centenary has a beautiful campus, and I am very much a nature person. I love being surrounded by nearby hiking trails. The school's overall size was important for me, I wanted to be close with my professors from the start. Centenary is helping me reach my goals because it offers very personalized assistance with any question or need you may have and because of this they help me work through any major career choices or concerns anyone in their twenties may have while looking for a career path and directions.

I chose Centenary because of the reputable equine program and the extensive networking opportunities it provides due to its prime location within the equine industry.

My favorite memory at Centenary so far is what my friends and I have dubbed our "family dinners" in the cafeteria. We all try to eat dinner together as often as possible, often being some of the first people in line and then the last people kicked out three hours later as dinner is closing. We spend the whole time telling stories, giving advice, debating, and learning more about each other, but mostly we just laugh.

Centenary College has not only become my college but my second home. The opportunities given and the one on one contact with the professors allows each and every student to achieve their goals and aspirations. These numerous opportunities has allowed my outgoing and kid-at-heart personality to greatly influence my success in a positive way. The memories I have created here will last me a lifetime and I truly could not imagine being anywhere else. At Centenary we are a family and a community all joined together by a common bond of striving for greatness.

Favorite Memory: My favorite memory was, without a doubt, when my AFC class went to Medieval Times and I received a rose from my handsome blue knight.
